Leicestershire have agreed a short-term professional contract with Yadvinder Singh, the right-arm seamer who was released by Worcestershire at the end of last summer.

Yadvinder, 30, had been training at Grace Road during the off-season, and will be available for selection for the opening month of the season. Though his opportunities with Worcestershire had been limited, he impressed on debut against Surrey in April 2024, claiming 4 for 103 against the then-County Champions including the wickets of both openers, Rory Burns and Dom Sibley.

His initial opportunity had come via the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA), for whom he first played against Warwickshire in May 2022. That was just the second fixture for an institution that had been founded to provide playing opportunities to players from under-represented communities who might otherwise have been lost to the game.

“I’m really pleased to be given this opportunity with Leicestershire,” Yadvinder said. “I’ve enjoyed my time training with the squad and I’m excited to contribute over the first part of the season.”

Tom Brown, SACA’s managing director, added: “We are thrilled that Yaddy has another opportunity to make his mark in the professional game. He will have a great chance at Leicestershire to prove that he has what it takes to perform at this level.

“His opportunities with Worcestershire in 2024 and 2025 were frustratingly limited, however with Leicestershire, he will have the chance to prove his worth with ball-in-hand early in the season, which all being well, will lead to him securing a longer-term deal with the Foxes.”

Alfonso Thomas, Leicestershire’s head coach, said: “Yadvinder has been with us over the winter and has impressed with both his skill and attitude.
“With a few injuries in our seam group, it’s a good opportunity for him and he adds important depth to the squad at the start of the season.”
