Harry Moore, the promising young Derbyshire fast bowler, has been ruled out of a second successive English season after a recurrence of a back stress fracture.

Moore, who turns 19 on Sunday, made his List A debut for Derbyshire as a 16-year-old and was becoming an England Under-19s regular before his initial injury – sustained in a pre-season friendly against SACA last March – ruled him out of the 2025 summer.

Derbyshire announced on Wednesday that he will miss a second successive season. “The injury is a re-occurrence of the one which kept Moore out for the entire 2025 season,” the club said in a statement. “He will work closely with the club’s medical team throughout the recovery process, with the aim of being available in 2027.”

Moore, who was a cricket scholar at Repton School in Derbyshire, is a 6ft 7in fast bowler and has ambitions to become an allrounder. He has taken 12 wickets in his 10 Metro Bank Cup appearances for Derbyshire, and took six wickets in his three County Championship matches at the end of the 2024 season.

Moore would likely have been part of the England squad that lost to India in the final of the recent Under-19s World Cup but for his injury. He was also due to play for Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred last summer.
